In partnership with Operation Finally Home, an organization aimed at honoring disabled veterans with custom made, mortgage-free homes, Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes will be breaking ground on a new home for Specialist (SPC) Michael Ryan, his wife Carey and their service dog Kingsley  in Georgetown’s Woodland Park.

In 2008, Specialist (SPC) Michael Ryan, an Army Bio-Medical Equipment Specialist trained to service critical life-saving equipment used to treat wounded soldiers, suffered a traumatic brain injury shortly after his arrival to Iraq. Having previously served on Army Medic teams in Operation Enduring Freedom VII in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007, SPC Michael Ryan was no stranger to the long list of injuries, many often fatal, which occur in battle. He had saved countless lives through his selfless service and care to many injured men and women, until he himself became one of those wounded soldiers.

The journey for SPC Ryan has been long and at times torturous, yet SPC Ryan remains positive about his recovery. Suffering from severe short term memory loss, extreme sensitivity to light, anxiety, depression, debilitating migraine headaches and intense chronic pain has left SPC Ryan to rely heavily on others. His wife, who has sacrificially given up her own career to care for her husband has managed to find several creative methods to help SPC Ryan maintain a sense of normalcy.

With a 40 appointment per week schedule and an inability to drive himself, SPC Ryan’s wife is a critical piece to his recovery. Working alongside his service dog, Kingsley, prescribed primarily as therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder, but also serving SPC Ryan in other key areas, the two have helped SPC Ryan successfully and admirably achieve several recovery milestones.
While SPC Ryan and his wife have gone through so much in their short married lives they are hopeful for a brighter future and have goals to send SPC Ryan to college at the University Of Mary Hardin Baylor (UMHB), a school that has a reputation for helping disabled veterans. Ryan is hopeful that UMHB will provide a comfortable and adaptive learning environment that will allow him to accomplish his educational goals and later, his dreams.

Check presentation concludes $50,000 donation campaign to Austin Disaster Relief Network

During a three week campaign benefiting the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN), Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes (JJCH), a Georgetown-based Central Texas homebuilder known for its philanthropic work, raised $50,000 for victims of the recent Bastrop wildfires.

The effort was designed as a dollar-for-dollar matching campaign with Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes offering to match any amount up to $25,000, earmarked specifically for the residents of Bastrop impacted by September’s devastating fires. With special thanks to ClearChannel of Austin who donated air time to publicize the campaign and to the hundreds of donors who participated in the three week event, Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes and the Austin Disaster Relief Network were able to reach their $50,000 goal.

Alongside its work with the Austin Disaster Relief Network Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes is in the process of rebuilding The Word of Life Community Church, mortgage-free, after the church’s building was destroyed in September’s fires.
